| It has come to my attention that the tar road to the West Coast Park is to be closed by the developer Scarpellini. A metal boom has been erected at the top of the hill. When phoned by Marius Koon Mr Scarpellini stated that because of local objections to his development he would be executing his rights as owner of said road to close it to the public. This surely is blackmail. Can anyone throw any more light on this situation? Can he do this? I understand that no servitude on this road was ever registered by council. This means that Langebaan residents will not be able to drive into the park from Langebaan and will have to go to the R27 and enter the park from there. |

Hi Janet! Thanks for the post. I too have seen the barrier. Our Team is looking into this and we shall make a statement shortly. The owner has threatened in newspapers and other avenues about closing off the land and road, but then has asked a mutual friend to ask me, personally, to stop spreading rumours about the possible closure of the land and beach / waters. We are only reporting and addressing the landowner's comments, so who knows what to think???? One this is certain, when you threaten to close the road and put up a boom, I do not believe this is a rumour! At the end of the day, the land is his and he certainly has rights. BUT, we also have rights and will ensure that the letter of the Law is followed and uninhibited due process is allowed to happen without intervention or meddling. Again, thanks for the post, and we will be in touch shortly. Regards The SaveSharkBay.org Team |
